Komedia, Brighton:

"Steve Ellis, of 1960’s outfit The Love Affair, might seem an unlikely heart throb, but I witnessed more than a couple of women in the audience calling to him, “I love you Steve.”

Performing to a sold-out, lively crowd, The Soul Survivors came on first and whipped up the audience with numbers Soul Freedom and Do You Like Good Music? The five-strong crew were reminiscent of The Blues’ Brothers, some wearing shades while energetically playing saxophone, piano, guitar and drum combos.

Then entered Steve, appearing petite and polite, no rock star egoist, as he announced they were going to play Motown and Northern Soul. He then belted out Get Ready and My Girl by The Temptations, jangling his tambourine while demonstrating his voice was still intact.

You would never know that Steve’s music career almost ended in 1983 after he nearly lost his feet in a terrible accident while working at Brighton docks. But he has made a comeback and Steve And The Soul Survivors certainly had the audience up on their feet, in their dancing shoes.

He kept the crowd waiting for his biggest hit, Everlasting Love, before finishing the party with Out Of Time and an encore of Midnight Hour."
